A 4-Week Course with Karen van Vuuren
For more than two decades, co-founder, Karen van Vuuren, and myriad helpers have stood alongside hundreds of bereaved families who’ve experienced profound meaning and healing from rituals in the presence of their dead. What once seemed unimaginable in our death-phobic culture, is often so powerfully transformative that they cannot conceive of doing it any other way.
This course covers both practical and philosophical approaches to caring for the dead. It includes real-life stories of families who came together, sometimes in chaotic and challenging circumstances, to bear witness to a loss with intimate, creative expressions of grief and love. We will also consider before-death ritual and ceremony for the dying and the to-be-bereaved that is honors and releases attachments to life and opens to transition.
Topics include:
- Ceremonies and Rituals to Prepare for Death
- Ceremonies to Mark Death in the Presence of the Body
- Ceremonial Body Care™ Your Way (A Washing and Blessing of the Deceased)
- Addressing Fears
- Practical Aspects of Ceremonial Body Care™
- Legalities
- How Connecting with Death Impacts Grief
Note: This is not a course about officiating at a funeral. Please see our Funeral Celebrancy Course for that.
